The Get Back
Coming from Detroit, Michigan is a group known as The Get Back
comprised of five members, Neal Zoerhof, Chuck Fuller, Dave Elliot,
Jarid McPherson and Mike Wisniewski. Drawing on influence from Iggy
Pop all the way to Johnny Cash, The Get Back’s razor sharp, driving
sound provides a cathartic release for the punk fanatic as well as the
classic rock enthusiast. “Jet fuel running through my veins,” sings
Neal Zoerhof as he throws coal into a raging fiery vortex on the brink
of destruction. David Elliot’s powerful, distorted guitar steers this
sonic locomotive to its final resting place.
Have you always been interested in music? What is your story
and how did you start making music?
We’ve always been and always will be interested in Music, poetry and
other various art forms. Detroit’s music scene was incredibly
conducive to our upbringing. We’ve drawn on influence from a number of
Detroit’s artists including MC5, The Stooges and The White Stripes.
What are you working on now? Any future releases we can look
forward to?
We have several original songs yet to be recorded including a critic
on organized religion and a song capturing the zeitgeist of today’s
political, social and racial turmoil.
What Is Your Ultimate Goal In The Music Industry?
We don’t set goals for ourselves because we know that if we focus on
the music we make now, any goal regarding the band will eventually be
reached.
What Has Been The Biggest Challenge In Your Career Thus Far?
Frankly, our biggest challenge has been finding a drummer which we
finally have!
How do you go about writing a song? Do you have a melody in
your head and then write the other music for it or what’s Your typical
songwriting process?
For us, the songwriting process is somewhat arbitrary. A song could
be written in any sequence. The trick is to let the song come to you.
How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
I personally believe that several streaming platforms don’t pay
artists enough money making a career in music almost obsolete but at
the same time, music is not just about financial gain.
List some famous musicians currently on your playlist?
Ween, Patti Smith, The Strokes, Homeshake, The Doors, Beck, The Stooges
What Did You Do Before You Started Making Music?
Well, we’ve always had a job coinciding with our creation of music.
Would you have any advice for young people wanting to follow
in your footsteps?
Never stop making music. Just when you think you’re incapable, genius strikes!
If you could change anything about the music industry, what
would it be?
Streaming platforms need to pay artists more. Also, we need to stop
solely relying on production platforms like protools and write better
songs.
How do you feel about originality?
People say it’s almost impossible to be original today. Others think
everything that’s self written is original. I believe it’s possible to
still be original yet your influence has to come from somewhere, thus
music is an evolving inevitable force much like life itself.
Is there anything else we should know about you? or Something
that you would like to add?
Come to Detroit, baby! We’ll show you what’s up.
